Creating an Elegant November Theme in Your Home

November has a quiet sophistication to it, doesn't it? The light changes, everything slows down a bit, and suddenly all you want to do is be home. We love helping our clients lean into that feeling. Let's work together to make your space feel special for the season, without turning it into a whole production.
Start with a Warm Color Palette

Here's the thing: you don't need orange everything to make November feel like November. We're talking warm cognacs, deep chocolates, soft caramels, creams, and those moody charcoals. Colors that just feel good this time of year.
Swap out a few throw pillows, toss a cashmere blanket over the couch, maybe add some brushed brass accents. Honestly, it doesn't take much. Just a few intentional swaps and your space transforms.
Bring the Outdoors In (But Keep It Simple)

We're big fans of grabbing some branches from the yard and putting them on display! Add some dried grasses if you're feeling it. That's it!
You don't need elaborate arrangements or a ton of "stuff." One really beautiful, natural element usually does the trick.
Play With Your Lighting

This is the time of year when lighting makes or breaks the vibe. Candles everywhere (we love beeswax or soy), dimmer switches actually being used, and warmer bulbs if you haven't switched them out yet.
Create little pockets of light instead of blasting the overhead. It's cozier, it's prettier, and honestly? Everyone looks better in soft lighting.
Make Your Table Feel Special

Whether it's Thanksgiving or just a Tuesday, November is table season. A linen runner (wrinkled is totally fine), simple dishes, some candlesticks, maybe a loose eucalyptus situation down the middle.
Nothing too fussy. You want your kids to actually eat here, your friends to stick around after dinner, your family to feel comfortable. Beautiful doesn't have to mean untouchable.
Layer All the Textures

This is your permission to pile on the cozy! Chunky knit throws, velvet pillows, a sheepskin rug by the bed, linen everything. Mix it all together! Have fun!
These textures aren't just for looks. They're what make you actually want to curl up and stay awhile.
Less Is More!

The biggest mistake is trying to decorate every single surface. Pick 2-3 spots—maybe your entryway, dining table, and mantel, and style those really well. Leave everything else alone.
That's what makes it feel thoughtful instead of chaotic.

How We Think About It
At DuBois Design + Build, we're all about homes that work with your life, not against it. November shouldn't mean redecorating your entire house. It's just about adding a few touches that make it feel warm, welcoming, and like the kind of place you don't want to leave!
Because at the end of the day, the best homes are the ones where life actually happens.
